Send Sally Home
AaronCapenBanner17 April 2015
The perennial old legend and urban myth of the vanishing hitchhiker is tackled here with good effect. After the accidental drowning death of young Paul Ellis, his angry and bitter father(played by George Mitchell) blames his daughter Sally(played by Anne Whitfield) though not her mother(played by Mary Lou Taylor), whose pleas fall on deaf ears, forcing Sally to leave home for a job at a diner in the big city. Her father does relent, and asks Sally to return home, but unfortunately, Sally is impatient to get back, abruptly quitting her job, and having no money, is forced to hitch-hike on a truck that crashes, killing them both, though Sally still tries to make it back home for years later... Familiar but stylish episode is little seen now but worth seeking out, and makes an effective double feature with 'The Death Waltz' on YouTube.

If You See Sally

The plot of this episode has been fully described. But if you have not read it I advise that you do not. What may be most remarkable about "If You See Sally" is the twist which is fully set up at the beginning, yet still comes as a surprise near the end.

"If You See Sally" is not your typical episode of "One Step Beyond" and that is what makes this one of the best. Sure, it's sentimental, but it is perfectly executed with John Newland himself delivering a great two-line capper.

Great episode

I like everything about this episode. The grieving family is believable. George Mitchell and Anne Whitfield give outstanding performances The entire cast is perfect. I have not been able to find a decent copy but you can find this episode online. Be aware that the dvd's advertised will not have every episode of the series. It is sad that this episode is missing. I am not going to give away the plot because it should be experienced. I feel that the copy I found was shortened by about three minutes and I sort of wonder what could have been left out. Even a shortened version is still great to watch.

Ghost walks among us

The plot line has already fully explained what it is about. A feud in a family about a burial and a Young woman rejected by her father. The girl who then goes away, trying to escape from a family who doesn't want her anymore, and then is killed in a car accident, while she was Hitch hiking. A drama made as a tear jacker for families. A pure, tragic drama with excellent performances. I just realize that in this show all kinds of stories, all kinds of schemes were told: comedies, dramas, war, crime, science fiction, westerns, disaster topics. All kinds of stories with all in common to give the audiences this so wonderful eerie atmosphere. This episode will please every one of you, for sure.
