In the original story, the killer is a farmer in South Africa. In this version, perhaps because of growing international criticism of the South African apartheid regime, the setting is changed to New Zealand.

This is an adaptation of the short story "Being A Murderer Myself", by Arthur Williams. The story is told by the murderer, who never tells us his name. For this adaptation, the name becomes that of the original author.
