Andy has a black left eye
leanneken27 April 2015
Just watched this episode again and noticed Andy has something wrong with his left eye...it appears to be swollen and black. Does anyone know how he got his sore eye?? I enjoyed the episode but there is no replacement for Barney. He was a unique character that could never be replaced. I thought it was interesting that although Helen was included in the discussion on what to do with the $1000, there wasn't any decision on whether she should go with them to Hollywood. That certainly wouldn't be the case today. I love all the old episodes of the show when love was slow and easy. My favorite shows are the black and white episodes I think because it's so different from color. I also love the shows when Opie is small, he has a lot of lines at times. I don't know how in the world they got a small child to say all those lines and with such emotion. It's also hard to believe that Ronnie ended up losing all his hair because he sure has a lot of thick hair when he was a kid. Lol!

Kitchen door

Is it me or did the kitchen door move from the same wall as the sink is on, to the wall where the hutch is located?

All the trip episodes work well
vitoscotti9 July 2022
Some funny Warren, Floyd & Goober to start the trip excitement. Funny when Goober confronts Warren for being Floyd's nephew didn't hurt his being hired as deputy chances.. I always liked the community camaraderie among the Mayberry townspeople to send off a family going on vacation. A difficult task to make a multi-episode special work. But, all the episodes are hilarious. We see as the bus to Raleigh drives up looks like the Pacific ocean and Los Angeles traffic in the background. Helen disappears in the final bon voyage shot. Something definitely wrong with Andy's swollen left eye. The luggage is just thrown on top of the bus not tied down? A very relatable episode so many families also vacation in California especially in the 60s before all it's deteriorating with social issues. Great start to trip episodes. They get even better with some classic scenes. Hard to believe imbecile Warren would be left in charge.

Bogus Hollywood Trip
Johnny_West22 July 2022
Helen Crump wrote the book, and logic should have been that Andy takes her to Hollywood, and she should have been the star of the Hollywood episodes. Aunt Bee should have stayed home with dopie Opie, to keep Jack Burns and Goober from destroying Mayberry.

Instead, we get all the typical dumb hick stuff from Aunt Bee, who was very nice but written as just another hillbilly out in Hollywood. Wow, room service! Wow color TV! Wow, cameras and ice cream! Wow fast food! Wow fancy cars! Where was Buddy Ebsen? They should have done a Beverly Hillbillies crossover episode.

It could have been about Andy & Helen having a great time in Tinsel Town. Instead it was Aunt Bee wondering about the marvels of Hollywood, and mostly sitting in her hotel room. It was almost kind of sad, but that is due to writing. It made the best virtues of Aunt Bee seem like handicaps.

This four-part Hollywood trip was also a missed opportunity for Deputy Warren to just disappear.

Going Down
Hitchcoc20 December 2019
You know that a comedy series has reached its nadir when the characters go off to some "foreign" place. It's entirely contrived and will be continued in the next episode. They are going to meet some glitzy people and appear to be hicks. I guarantee it.
