Sissy!

I have to agree that writing about a family member is hard. If you are really close to that person, objectivity goes out the window. It makes me wonder how bad Opie's essay could have been to get an F. Even if it lacked content, if it was written with decent sentences, grammar, spelling, etc., it would have escaped the bottom. But it's interesting that he got a chance to do the whole thing over or change course. The cool thing about this episode is the closeness of Andy and his son, and their day to day interactions.

Forgettable episode but a fantastic ending

Warning: Spoilers
Forgettable episode with a terrific ending.

The episode has some funny bits, like when Andy is bragging about catching a wildcat and throwing a no-hitter. Aunt Bea and Goober ruin these heroic's by telling about how the wildcat was just a wild sick cat. Goober reveals that Andy's team lost 10-0 because he walked 17 batters.

The saving grace of the episode is the ending which shows the relationship between Andy and Opie. Terrific acting by Ron Howard in this scene. When he explains to Andy why he wrote about Arnold's father instead of Andy, it brought back memories of the earlier episodes with the Andy and Opie relationship.

Watch the episode until the end and you won't be disappointed.

Superbly written

A very touching story about Opie finding it hard to express himself about Andy's many good qualities. Funniest parts are when Andy's feats are bebunked by Aunt Bee & Goober. Difficult subject was done well by 2 strong acting performancees. Helen was curiously coy when Andy tried to pump her for information. I thought this episode was much better than the more acclaimed Opie episodes "Mr. McBeevee... Opie the Brdman".
