Tale by: Kristen
so we begin the season with everyone dishing on fairy tales, kristen dressed up as a fairytale princess then goes on to tell as that fairy tales aren't all they're made up to be. typical kristen.
i like her episodes because she sort of gets into the darkness of the very teenage girly aspect of things. her episodes featured a horse girl, a prom queen, and now a girl obsessed with fairy tales.
the imagery in this episode is really really awesome. then bobcat goldthwaite shows up. now, i am team bobcat. big fan. highly recommend him as a director, and his little arc on the larry sanders show was brilliant. but i'm really not a fan of him in this episode. it might just be because i know him and am just aware of his personality and it takes away from the anonymity of the show. one of the things i love about this series is that it's not bogged down with special guests and familiar faces. it makes for a viewing experience that you can just enjoy for its own sake and not for the sake of who's in it. but bobcat is pretty obscure. he was kind of a weird up-and-commer at the time, probably not all that famous. and his zany personality totally fits with nickelodeon outfit at the time. so i can see being a kid, not knowing who he is, and either appreciating it...or still not appreciating it because he's pretty ridiculous in this. so who knows.
so anyways, he sort of takes away from the solid dreamy atmosphere that the episode established, but it still ends up being a dark and beautiful episode. not a bad start to the season. honestly, bobcat was probably the big celebrity "get" of the season so hopefully we'll go back to not recognizing anyone except for the in cast favorites like Sardo and that guy that looks like Hagrid.
