For the show's first two seasons, Bentley Gregg, Kelly & Peter were shown to live in a low, single-story, ranch-style home. But with the start of the show's third season, the Gregg house suddenly became a large, two-story colonial home. The new house was actually on the back lot of Universal Studios Hollywood, part of their "Colonial Street". The Gregg house was located east of the "Leave It To Beaver" house, in a section that was also sometimes known as "New England Street". Colonial Street later became widely known as the "Wisteria Lane" neighborhood from "Desperate Housewives".
The change in location wasn't addressed until six months later, in the episode "Bentley's New House", which tells the story of the family moving into the new colonial home. (The street number shown on the new house is 1163.) Apparently, it must not be far from their old house, because Kelly's friends, Ginger and Howard, show up almost immediately to see the place. Ginger remarks that "It's 10 times bigger than your old house."
