Although I was never a big fan if this series, I am well aware of how successful it was. In it's long history, this is 1 of only 3 episodes in which Ben Johnson guest stars. I have always been a big fan of his work. He was best known for his roles in "The Last Picture Show" (1971), " The Wild Bunch" (1969) & "The Getaway" (1972). In Hollywood, Johnson started out in 1940. Howard Hughes had hired him as a horse wrangler. He stayed (the pay was very good), then got work as a stuntman, plus "doubled" people likeJohn Wayne, Gary Cooper and other famous actors. He went on to become a terrific actor with a powerful screen presence. Besides "The Getaway", he co-starred in "Junior Bonner" (1972). Both films were directed by the legendary Sam Peckinpah. Johnson and several other very well known actors were in Peckinpah's "stable". Besides Ben Johnson's presence and acting skills, he was an outstanding horseman. This is obvious if you see him in "Junior Bonner". Please watch.

Leap of faith

When David Canary found Ben Johnson and his wife Elyssa Davalos holed up in a
Ponderosa line shack with Johnson wounded he takes one big leap of faith to
help him. Candy is an army brat himself and Johnson wanted for desertion and
cowardice just doesn't fit.
What Johnson is doing is being on the trail of a gang selling weapons to Indians. He's in for quite a shock when he sees who the gang boss is.
Nice guest star turn from Ben Johnson in this Bonanza story.
