Some renegade Indians have jumped the reservation and are wreaking havoc on the frontier. Dan Blocker and Michael Landon go out to warn some outskirts settlers and Little Joe takes an Indian arrow. Hoss and Little Joe find a small group of wagons heading east and these folks for the most part aren't real frontier folk.
The Cartwright sons lead the group of wagons to a stagecoach station where they can hold up. They do meet up with their father there and the Cartwrights and the rest make a stand. Their biggest handicap is James Gregory, former army officer cashiered for cowardice.
Gregory gives a fine performance as a man who even questions his own right to live. In the end he goes out something like the way James Cagney does in The Fighting 69th.
