Me Dear old mother
bkoganbing5 August 2020
Cheerio Meredith arrives at the Ponderosa just in time to save Hoss who has fallen into the well. But Dan Blocker does not correct her mistaken impression nor do the other Cartwrights that it is her son James Dunn who is the owner of the Ponderosa. She's just such a dear sweet old soul and she does do the cleaning and cooking while Hop Sing is away.

Dunn is her deadbeat drunken son who spends half his nights sleeping t off in Roy Coffee's jail. It's only up to a point that the Cartwrights play along with this charade.

Dunn's portrayal is sadly too close to his own real life and close to his Oscar winner from A Tree Grows In Brooklyn. It's a good episode and the scenes with Dunn and Meredith are precious indeed.

The Incredible Hulk visits the Ponderosa

Warning: Spoilers
Gonna stick with that header because Danny's mom has to have some Hulk inside of her to be able to pull ANYBODY out of a well. But strangely enough this lady's able to pull Hoss out of the well by herself. Hoss even gives her credit later on that he would've drowned in the well if it hadn't been for her. That bit was pretty funny and made even funnier when it takes three men to lift up Danny Lynch later on.

I think that was the best part of the episode. I guess I should make my stance clearer on enjoying episodes where the Cartwrights help out somebody. Danny was absolutely an unsympathetic character and I really couldn't root for him at all. Feel like he got lucky with some dumb luck when he took his money gambling (again) and managed to win back his mom's money he lost gambling. It was money for her trip back home to Ireland. I also liked the scene when Hoss is absolutely disgusted at Danny's gambling again, he tosses the deck of cards on the table and leaves.

Good news is that Danny's also going back to Ireland. Here's hoping the writing isn't on par with a "Little House on the Prairie" episode and he shows back up 3 episodes later like nothing happened. I'd also say Hoss and Ben must've been already drunk hardcore to even bother saying they'd miss Danny.
