- Jason McCord: I don't think anyone's out to get you, Mr Shields. It's just that you were given certain land grants some years ago and it seems you outgrew them.
- Aaron Shields: So what? Maybe I did take ten times what the government gave me. Well, it's the same thing the government did with the Indians and they didn't do a blessed thing about it. I took that land and made something good out of it. I took that alkaline that attacks this land and turned it into a rich horse and cattle country.
- Kolyan - Gypsy Leader: From sunrise to sunset, the almighty Shields owns the air you breathe.
- Jason McCord: Oh, well then, I'd be honoured to stay with you and breathe some fresh air.
- Kolyan - Gypsy Leader: Wild women and horses are both the same. It only takes a little time and a strong hand to break them.
- Jason McCord: Or be thrown so hard you never get up.
- Kolyan - Gypsy Leader: But if he did not help me, I would be with the angels, playing a harp instead of my violin.
- Kolyan: Once upon a time there was this prince who fell in love with this beautiful princess. They were very much in love, but their families were enemies. So the young prince made a bargain with the devil. And that night... the devil changed this father into a box, and this mother into a bowl. And his four young brothers into strings. When the young prince woke up, he picked up the magical instrument and said 'Play' and then all of a sudden, the girls' parents changed and they became kind and nice and loving people. And the young prince was forever lost into his spell.
- Lisa - Kolyan's Sister: You can do better, gorgas.
- Jason McCord: Some men are good at something, some are good at another.
- Lisa - Kolyan's Sister: And what is your specialty? Breaking in small goats?
- Jason McCord: Small stubborn goats.
- Jason McCord: ON WHAT CHARGE?
- Aaron Shields: I could name a hundred. First off you polluted my creek this morning.
- Jason McCord: I DID WHAT?
- Aaron Shields: That'll do for openers. When the Sheriff checks that one out, I'll start naming the others. I said, arrest him.
- Kolyan - Gypsy Leader: You call this justice. This is the law of one gorgas and his guns.
- Lazar - Gypsy Who Assists McCord With Surveying: I can write my name, sir. I can count up to 100.
- Jason McCord: Well, that's fair enough. I'll take care of everything over one hundred.
- Kolyan - Gypsy Leader: McCord, who's going to take care of Shields and his men when they come looking for trouble?
- Jason McCord: I don't expect trouble.
- Kolyan - Gypsy Leader: It's his land. It's his people. It's his law. And you crossed him.
