A man had been murdered by being hit in the back of the head with an object after leaving a speed dating club. The M.E. wants to find out what type of weapon was used by making a mold of the dent in the skull made by the weapon. For some reason, instead of using a scalpel to cut the scalp and peel it back to reveal the skull where the dent is and make the mold that way, the M.E. cut the whole head off and boiled it to make the flesh come off to get the skull to examine.
There was no need to cut the head off at all. The only reason it was in the story was so a new CSI could be sent in to see the headless body as a hazing new CSI's would get by other CSIs who'd been CSIs for years.

Debi Mazar is not listed in credits even though as Rebecca Briggs she's a key figure.
