During the opening sequence a man with a pack of dogs is tracking another man. During a close up shot of the dogs they are barking constantly despite the fact that their mouths are not open. The barking of the dogs was more than obviously dubbed in.
In the final scene after Karl Verboeck is arrested Sam throws the strap that Karl used to break the necks of animals and people in to the fire. This would have been a valuable piece of evidence that he destroyed.
Sam Cade professes to be an old and very close friend of Taxkahe. However the conversation in the meeting in Sam's office with J.J. Jackson, Rudy and Betty Ann Sundown reveals that Sam knew very little, almost nothing, about Taxkahe. Sundown had to explain to Sam that Taxkahe was of the Pueblo tribe as opposed to Sam's belief that he was an Apache Indian. She also had to explain that he was a vegetarian and that he didn't believe in killing animals for food. She also had to explain that Taxkahe was a Pueblo chief and that the Pueblo's had summer and winter chief's. For Sam to be as close of a friend to Taxkahe he knew absolutely nothing about him.
After Cleve Hatfield is murdered on the Apache reservation Sheriff Sam Cade, his deputies and an ambulance respond to the scene. As they try to find out who might be witnesses they never identify how the knew that the killing had happened in the first place. If someone called them their investigation never included speaking to the person that reported the murder and their was no mention of who found the body.
