While Carla is lamenting how little money Eddie sends back from the ice show, Frasier comments that the ice show craze in America never recovered from the loss of Frick and Frack. Frick and Frack were an ice skating comedy duo who were a part of the original Ice Follies show from 1937 until the mid 1950s. They also appeared in movies, and their names became a household term in many countries. Their names became synonymous in two ways: referring to two people who are closely associated to the point they're individually indistinguishable, or as a derogatory term for two people who are oafish or inept.

Rhea Perlman reportedly was listening to an LA radio show hosted by Jay Thomas, who played the Eddie LeBec character. Thomas, who had kept his alternate job as a DJ, made several unflattering remarks about Perlman and having to kiss her during an on-air call. This episode, killing off the Eddie LeBec character, was Perlman's revenge. While this was widely rumored, both Perlman and Thomas have disputed it. Thomas suggests the reason was that the studio only wanted to keep either him or Bebe Neuworth, and opted for Neuworth.
