"Ed's Recuperation" opens with Ed home in bed after the surgery from "In Your Hat," wondering how long it will be before he can fend for himself. Della takes one look at Ed and figures he's rehearsing for an autopsy (Chico: "a man ought to be in good health when he croaks!"). 'Cuban quack' Doctor Spanola (Julio Medina, second of three) concludes that Ed needs a pediatrician because he's just a big baby! Unfortunately, his latest nurse Amanda (Shirley Mitchell) has a habit of marrying husbands in the hospital, where she met her last four, none of whom survived the honeymoon. No one is more surprised than Ed to see Della pretend to be his girlfriend, just to rid him of the sweet talking succubus!
