The letter that Hanley receives about Kovac's wife being near death is seen briefly by the audience when Hanley puts it on the desk. Later, as Kovac is reading the letter, he is holding it up and the writing can be seen through the back of the paper. This part of the scene is long enough to see that, based on the spacing of the writing seen earlier, and the content of the letter when Hanley read it aloud, it is not the same letter, and could even be in French. Update: whatever the letter is, it is definitely in French. This can be confirmed when seen in reverse image.
Saunders calls for and gets the grenade launcher, and he is seen, in close-up, getting ready to fire. A camera change to show Saunders from a slight distance reveals that it is an obvious double that fires the grenade launcher.
Right after Hanley tell Saunders that he's not going to transfer Kovak, they both move away and the camera's shadow is seen on Hanley's jacket.
