Saunders and his men and their two German prisoners get up and begin to move out. Their shadows are obvious and relatively short. Seconds later, during continuous action, a German soldier lies down next to a burning vehicle. Before he lies down one cannot help but notice that his shadow is very long. This indicates that despite the action supposedly taking place only seconds after the previous shot, it has in fact been filmed several hours earlier or later.
The title, Headcount, refers to the number of German prisoners. They are all put in the truck standing up, except for one that is seriously wounded. It is not noticeable that he is lying down until all the prisoners have to get off the truck after it is damaged by a land mine. Two prisoners help take him off the truck. From the position of where the other 17 men were standing, some of them would have to have been standing on the wounded prisoner.
Saunders says "it'll be dark soon", and his men and their two German prisoners get up and begin to move out. Their shadows are obviously relatively short, indicating that it will not, in fact, be getting dark soon.
