"The Leader" is a story about William G. Kirby under pressure to make the right decisions after taking over White Rook for minutes that go slow motion.
Jack Hogan does an outstanding job portraying leadership amidst a squad torn over his decisions. Others question his every move but Kirby sticks to his judgments regardless of gray areas.
Esther & Bob Mitchell wrote a fine screenplay designed to give Kirby & the squad center stage without the intercession of Saunders & Hanley. Suspense levels remain high. Character development within White Rook is excellent with a good volume of conflict thrown in. Add to this fears & anxieties of several players and the episode demands your attention. The viewing audience can consider what they'd do given the same complex circumstances.
Georg Fenady did a fine job directing the night combat scenes and as always the Germans put on a good show. Heavy artillery fire is fun to experience and the special effects of A D Flowers are excellent.
Test your Army counterintelligence skills - what would you do ? Good way to end Season 4 of Combat.
