Larry tries to joke with the wrong person in the wrong way at the wrong time
AlsExGal15 April 2024
Larry and Richard are talking, and Richard is telling Larry he is hurt that Larry isn't calling him to do things together anymore. Larry has to admit that Richard's obnoxious girlfriend has him avoiding both of them. They are in the process of finding a way to patch up their friendship when Richard's African American dermatologist friend walks up and says hello. Larry blurts out something about affirmative action, trying to be funny. He isn't.. I've rewound it a couple of times and still can't figure out what he said other than the words "affirmative action". The doctor is understandably offended by Larry and storms off. It was like something Jack Nicholson would have blurted out in "As Good As It Gets".

At the same time, Cheryl has dermatitis and has a prescription that is supposed to treat it. Trying to get that prescription filled, Larry offending Richard's friend, and Larry trying to avoid someone at a restaurant who is a dull conversationalist and hangs around like a bad cold all intersect in hilarious ways. I will add that, after everything Cheryl goes through in this episode, if there was any time she was going to divorce Larry I would have thought that this was the time.

I've never said anything as bad as what Larry said to the doctor, but I think we've all blurted out things we immediately regret and have wondered if it won't come back to bite us later, in spite of any apology we immediately make.

Solid episode.

Lots of good season 1 tie-ins, including the navigation system. Love Richard in this episode, and Cheryl holds it down. Larry makes me feel bad, and odd inside.

every time larry makes me laugh and cheryl seems to be a greater comfort for the viewers than just to larry, the old swag.his crazy mates just love him and in every situation he does exactly what every other one of us would do,if we had the intelligence and the balls to open our mouths.-and makes a great blunder with every word that flows from his mouth.sometimes others do get the better of him tho.cheryl is always funny, even though she never makes a joke.its her understanding of larry and that beautiful constant inner smile saying,my husbands a jerk,a smart jerk,a lovable jerk, and i understand him coz i love him coz he's really better than the rest of those crackheads.this was a funny episode, highlighting all our racist subphrases.in action.gee i sound like I've just put on a golf sweater and claiming my 500 bucks for finding larry's little book.i'd like to see whats in that book.I've got plenty of them.this is a genius series.and genius with beauty always wins.thanks larry and cheryl.and that fat guy for stealing your mince pies...he's funny...larry and him must have a real laugh.
