- Pamela Barnes Ewing: Oh, Christopher. Sometimes I wish I could be your age again. Life is so uncomplicated for you. Or is it? Do you have any idea what your Mommy is feeling? Mark is a wonderful man,
- [shakes her head]
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: and I like him very much. But he's not your Daddy.
- [tearfully:]
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: Why couldn't your Daddy and I have stayed together? You ought to be growing up with both of us here. I was hoping things would change, and somehow we'll get to be a family again. But every time one of us takes another step... it seems to be in the opposite direction.
- Charlie Wade: [after they turned onto Southfork] Why are we stopping?
- Jenna Wade: Bobby is probably still on his way. He said to meet him at the gate and we'd drive up together.
- Charlie Wade: [spots horses] Look, Mom! Are they Bobby's?
- Jenna Wade: I think they belong to the family. Pretty, aren't they?
- Charlie Wade: Yeah.
- [they walk over to the wooden fence]
- Jenna Wade: I used to have horses like this. Or rather, my Daddy did.
- Charlie Wade: You never told me that.
- Jenna Wade: There's a lot of things your Mommy never told you, honey. I used to live on a ranch not more than three miles down the road. And when Bobby and I were kids, he used to ride his own horse over to see me.
- Charlie Wade: Right down there?
- [points]
- Jenna Wade: Mm-hmm. And a couple of years later it was a motorcycle. And then after that it was a convertible.
- Charlie Wade: He came to see you a lot.
- Jenna Wade: Whenever he could sneak away from his chores. He never liked to work much then.
- Charlie Wade: He must have been really in love with you to keep coming around like that.
- Jenna Wade: [smiles] We were in love with each other.
- Charlie Wade: Boy, I wish I could have a horse.
- Jenna Wade: Ah, I wish I could afford to give you one.
- [sighs]
- Jenna Wade: Of course, even if I could, where would you keep it?
- Charlie Wade: Here.
- [shrugs]
- Jenna Wade: At Southfork?
- Charlie Wade: Sure. All you'd have to do is marry Bobby.
- [smiles]
- Jenna Wade: [smiles] You, young lady, are talking about things you got no business talking about.
- Cliff Barnes: [bumps against new secretary in doorway] Ooh, I'm sorry.
- Jackie Dugan: [with a smile] It's okay, I've got another foot.
- Cliff Barnes: J.R., you're about the last person I expected to see in this office.
- J.R. Ewing: Good evening, Cliff.
- Cliff Barnes: Uh, I don't suppose you came to apologize for that ruckus you caused at the ball the other night?
- J.R. Ewing: No. I didn't come to get an apology from you either.
- Cliff Barnes: Well, that's good, because I'm not about to give you one.
- J.R. Ewing: I did come here to congratulate you, however.
- Cliff Barnes: That'll be the day.
- J.R. Ewing: For hooking up with Mark Graison. He's got a very powerful company.
- Cliff Barnes: You noticed that, huh?
- J.R. Ewing: And for beating me out of two excellent deals.
- Cliff Barnes: [chuckling] So you finally figured out I'm the one who beat you out of 'em?
- J.R. Ewing: Well, I don't know how you did it, Cliff, but I got to take my hat off to you.
- Cliff Barnes: Well, that's something I'll let you do. Congratulations from you been a long time comin'.
- J.R. Ewing: You're beginning to be a very serious adversary.
- Cliff Barnes: Finally noticed that, huh?
- [last lines]
- Sly: [sobbing] I didn't mean to hurt the company, J.R.
- J.R. Ewing: No, of course you didn't. As a matter of fact, I'm glad I found out it was you, not anybody else, because I can trust you, Sly. And you've given me something I've always wanted: A way of communicating with Cliff Barnes.
- Sly: What do you mean?
- J.R. Ewing: He doesn't have to know I found out about you. And you can be very useful in passing along information. Information I control.
- Sly: You gonna set him up?
- J.R. Ewing: Uh-uh. He set himself up. What I'm going to do is bring him down... and bring hm down very, very hard.
- Cliff Barnes: I know you want to help the company. I'm glad for that. But the fact of the matter is we already have things exactly where we want them. We have a direct line to everything that's happening in the oil business.
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: What do you mean? What kind of line?
- Cliff Barnes: All you need to know is that it's terrific... if your name happens to be Barnes.
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: And that's all you're going to tell me?
- Cliff Barnes: That's all I can tell you right now.
- Jenna Wade: [chuckles uneasily] Listen, Bobby, I've been pretty good. I haven't brought up the subject all day. But I think it has something to do with Pam and what happened last night.
