It is 1878 and Rutherford B. Hayes is President of the United States. the most publicized débutante in the nation;s capital, "Doty Trumbl" (Louise Arthur) ) is partying all over. Arthur looked a little old to be playing a débutante.
Dottie and congressman "Mark Tabor" (Jim Davis) are at one of those parties and are arguing about how to pronounce "Nevada." Out of nowhere, he kisses her"What made you do that" "Because you are so irritating and beautiful."
After that corny exchange, we find out later that Doty's father has been given a job, coincidentally, with the U.S. Mint in Nevada so the whole family will be packing up and leaving for Carson City. Obviously, the smitten politician had something to do with this.
The family arrives in Carson City right after Christmas but the family, with the wife and daughter unhappy with this movie out in the middle of nowhere.
Nothing happens in this story. How this could be included in a western TV classics TV is a mystery to me. It certainly wouldn't inspire anyone to watch more of these, and I know this show was a lot better than what I saw in this boring episode of a young woman who finds happiness can be found in smaller places.
Note: This was the second episode in season two and it was narrated by "The Old Ranger." He as Stanley Adams and preceded Ronald Reagan, for one, as host of this show. Included in this episode, which is part of a "TV Guide Classic Westersns" DVD are the commercials for "20 Mule Team Borax" with Rosemary DeCamp. I actually remember those commercials. John Eldredge was a familiar face. He played Doty's father in here and was a regular villain on the "Adventures of Sueprman" TV series.
