It's Mary Jo's party and she'll cry if she wants to, as soon as she gives her ex the bird!

Warning: Spoilers
Love her or hate her, you have to feel some sympathy for Mary Jo being married to Scott Bakula's Ted Shively prior to the start of the series. A good actor, Bakula played a rather unlikable character, always so smug and ungrateful to everything Mary Jo obviously did to help him along. Here he's trying to flatter her for his own purpose, and that passive/aggressive attitude just further makes me dislike him.

Fortunately, Mary Jo's current boyfriend J.D., Julia's boyfriend Reese and Charlene's boyfriend Bill were written much differently than Ted. if anyone deserve to be told off like Julia did at that ski weekend, it was Ted who was not there. Ted seemingly makes a pass even though he's engaged to marry his girlfriend Tammy we met previously unseen here.

It's nice to see the friendship between Mary Jo's little son Quint and Anthony growing as Anthony explains why cursing is not a good thing. With situations like this occurring for Mary Jo, it shows how she would become a bit more liberated and feminist in future seasons, having started off a bit more insecure and emotionally weaker. not one of the better episodes, it does have some very funny moments and a cute one when Mary Jo and Charlene break into "It's My Party".
