  Tina Reynolds : No...

  Joe Mannix : You abandoned Lou and Tina. When you came back, Lou didn't want you. You filed for divorce and sole custody. He was about to get it. You couldn't let that happen; you wanted Tina too much. There was only one sure way you could get her back: if you were the only parent left.

  Tina Reynolds : No... No, this can't be right. Tell him, mother.

  George Fallon : Listen, it's time for you to leave.

  [walks towards the door] 

  Joe Mannix : You shot Lou with a hunting rifle. Because of the story he was writing, you were sure the murder would be blamed on the mob. No one would ever suspect you, and you'd get Tina back.

  [Fallon opens the door, Steve enters with his credentials shown] 

  Joe Mannix : You made one mistake Edie, taking that shot at me. No professional killer would keep a murder weapon for two decades.

  Tina Reynolds : Joe, you got it all wrong.

  [to Edie] 

  Tina Reynolds : Tell him he's making a mistake. Please, tell him it isn't true.

  Edie Reynolds Fallon : Lou was going to have me declared an unfit mother; I would've lost you.

  [pause] 

  Edie Reynolds Fallon : Cruel thing is, I lost you anyway.

  Steve Sloan : [Takes her by the arm]  You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law...

  [as Edie and Steve leave, Tina starts crying; Joe hugs her to comfort her] 

  Joe Mannix : I'm so sorry.
