Predictable but good war melodrama
searchanddestroy-18 February 2016
Warning: Spoilers
OK, I admit that this kind of story has already been told before, at least a thousand times, and every one would prefer Henry King's TWELVE O'CLOCK. But this episode is a solid expose that shows the true burden of bombardiers pilots, their inner problems, their expectations, their courage, and I won't speak of all the technicalities around the flying fortresses which they were aboard of. Dick Powell is as good as usual as the squadron leader, a true one, so close to his men. Cliché, you would say, yes, but very well done. You have the foreseeable scene where Dick Powell's wife argues with him about the fact that, as a B 17 squadron leader, he provokes death of lots of innocent people. But you have something special in this short story, I let you find out exactly what.
