View from the Eiffel Tower
Prismark1022 October 2021
Shades of Casablanca. Dick Powell is Vincent Powers an American night club owner with a dubious past.

He is also involved in gun smuggling and selling them to various faction involved in the France/Algerian war.

These factions want the guns from Powers who is happy to sell to the highest bidder.

Inspector Boulanger is on his tail but Powers is distracted and falls for a visiting American in Paris.

She is Alice Wood (Jane Powell) who helps Powers out over a suitcase. As she is travelling alone, Powers shows her the sights including the view from the Eiffel Tower. Both fall for each other.

Powers unwittingly places Alice in danger as the gun runners target her.

A rather cynical story, part noir and the Rick Blaine influences are obvious.

Jane Powell died in September 2021. I presume she would had been the last remaining cast member alive.

Gentleman smuggler in Paris

Warning: Spoilers
What a sweet little crime adventure drama here, with sometimes a touch of comedy and romance à la française (in the french manner); after all it takes place in Paris... Steven Geray is also on the run here, in this gun smugglers stale and Dick Powell's character is so surprising, especially when we discover that he is more than involved with the smugglers. See for yourself, just after he has been seen in a pure romance atmosphere with the beautiful woman, you see him entering a warehouse and testing a machine gun...And after, he is back at the restaurant, having dinner with the same demoiselle (lady), with another beautiful music score... I pretty much enjoyed this show set in the most beautiful city in the world. And seeing Bella Darvi is also a pure delight.

Directed by Lewis Allen
