Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: I came by to ask why you quit, but it looks like you're quitting more than the football team.
Josh Harris: I didn't think it would matter to you.
Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: You're wrong. It does matter.
Josh Harris: Look, don't do that, Sammy Jo. We had our one-night stand. That's all that mattered. You made that clear.
Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: [comes nearer] Just because I didn't agree to run away with you, that means I don't care?
[sits down]
Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: Well, look who's running away now. Why?
Josh Harris: Because... it's just something I wanna do.
[sighs]
Josh Harris: You wouldn't understand.
Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: Oh, really? That's funny. I know all about running away. I wrote the book. When things got rough, Sammy Jo got going.
Josh Harris: Well, maybe you were right.
Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: [shakes her head] No. I was afraid. I wasn't sure where I belonged, so I didn't stay in one place long enough to find out. I even left Danny behind. I gave up three years of my son's life because I was too scared to fight for him. I don't know if I'll ever forgive myself for that.
Josh Harris: Sammy Jo, we're different people. I have to go. It's easier that way.
Sammy Jo Dean Carrington: But it isn't. Can't you see that once you start running, it gets harder and harder to stop? I do care about you, Josh. I don't want it to end like this.
[which he misunderstands]
