- When a former protege of McCall's is murdered, he vows to seek out those responsible. His subsequent investigation, however, reveals that she may have been involved in criminal activity following her departure from The Company.
- WARNING--THIS SYNOPSIS CONTAINS SPOILERS. A protege of McCall ( who had become very close romantically to McCall), Meredith (Anne Twomey) had been set up by another division of the Company to feed incorrect information to leftists that that division, the South Company, wanted to discredit and destroy. She had tried to get McCall to quit the Company. After her setup, the Company gave her a token job running a travel division but then closed it. She went to work for Tony Costa (Joseph Mascolo) and his partner Johnny Sax (Lewis Van Bergen) at an after hours club. She functioned as a "house mom" at the club and keeps the "girls' (prostitutes) in line for Costa. Costa was not "connected" but tolerated by organized crime. He skimmed money from the after hours club and had $800,000 in a safe to which only he and Meredith had the combination. The money turned up missing, and Costa ordered Sax to get it back. A woman is found dead at Meredith's ranscked apartment and is buried. McCall blames himself for Meredith's descent into vice. McCall sets out to get Meredith's killer whom he initially assumes is Costa. Things are not as they seem to be in more ways than one, but McCall with the help of Kostmayer unravels the mystery.
