The episode is not only my favorite from "Extras," but easily one of my favorite comedic episodes from any series ever to appear on television. The writing is superb, Ricky Gervais and the support cast are hilarious, and Kate Winslet *defines* what "best guest performance by an actress" truly means. I was quite puzzled that she did not win the Emmy for that very category in which she was nominated. I was also surprised that the writing did not win the Emmy it was nominated for as well.

Even if you were to remove Kate's scenes, the rest of the episode is just as hilarious. Gervais tackles religion, the Holocaust, and even the handicapped. He manages to offend, but tastefully (which I never thought possible), all of the above.

Overall, "Extras" was a terrific and thoroughly entertaining series, but this episode really rockets into the stratosphere. I can't say enough good things about it.

Its script should be used as the "textbook example" of comic short writing for all screenplay courses.

Did I mention that I liked it?

My favorite episode from Extra's first season. Thanks to Kate Winslet.

This is absolutely a great episode. Clearly my favorite from the 1st season. And a big reason for it is Kate Winslet, she's just wonderful. She's doing a holocaust-film just because she thinks she'd finally going to get an Oscar from it. The funniest bits are the ones, where Kate (dressed as a nun) is giving advise how to talk dirty on the phone.

The other thing is Andy's (Gervais) attempts to get a girl with lies following lies. And the scene when other's find out about the lies, and Andy's trying to solve his way out of it. He explains that he only said a white lie, so he wouldn't hurt the girl's retarded sister's feelings.

Kate Winslet is the guest star shooting a film about the Holocaust. Well you win an Oscar for that as she tells Andy. Ironically Winslet would win an Oscar for a film that dealt with aspects of the Holocaust.

Andy plays a German officer and looks rather natty in the German uniform. He tells someone he looks even better when he wears white sheets and carries a burning cross.

Maggie is involved in some telephone sex with a boyfriend and finds it uncomfortable until she gets tips from Kate Winlset on how to engage in telephone sex properly.

Andy meanwhile takes a shine to another extra in the film who has a sister with cerebral palsy and they are also religious. Andy pretends to be catholic to get close to her but it all ends up embarrassing at a church meeting with the priest.

A terrific guest turn from Winslet, plenty of squirming provided by Andy mocking religion and disability at the same time. My favourite bit was when the Nazis break down the door and the director shouts cut just as Andy shows his face through the door. The life of an extra, eh.
