When Col. von Zeppel asks Capt. Parmenter for an orderly he says, "We Prussians have a 'begleiter', the British officers have a 'batman'. You Americans, you do not have a batman?" This is a tongue-in-cheek allusion to the TV show Batman (1966), which aired directly before F Troop on Thursday nights on the ABC network.
The title was from the 1926 song "Bye Bye Blackbird" by composer Ray Henderson and lyricist Mort Dixon.
