A cute idea for a male version of FACTS OF LIFE

I refer to this episode and THE BIG FIGHT as " The John P. Navin Jr. Episodes". Navin was a funny teen actor who was in a lot of TV shows and movies back at this time. He was in the hit movie NATIONAL LAMPOONS VACATION and the TV show JENNIFER SLEPT HERE. He had a realistic Boy Next Door charm.

In this episode Jo gets a call from her friend Buzz who is played by Jimmy Baio, another fine young actor from the TV show SOAP . He needs an impressive date for a school dance at his Military Academy. Jo agrees to set him up with Blaire and Buzz invites Jo and the other girls promising to find them dates too.

And wow does he do a good job! These guys are cute! And they make for good counter-parts to the FACTS OF LIFE girls. You could imagine all these teenagers actually dating eachother. They all have really good chemistry. One of the gags here is Natalie's date is a few years younger than her. But Natalie has a good sense of humor and so does he, so even that makes for a good match.

This was an episode that was a potential spin off idea for the boys. It did not happen. There is actually another episode called THE BIG FIGHT where the girls see these boys again and that episode is another favorite of mine. I would have loved for the boys to have gotten their own show the girls could have made appearances on. I think it would have been fun . But alas ..... it was not meant to be.

Spinoff attempt. One of the better ones, but still not very good.

Warning: Spoilers
This is another episode where they are trying to create a spinoff, so they spend a lot of time showing other actors versus the girls and Mrs. Garrett.

I thought it was slightly better than the other spinoff attempts they show had. The boys were ok, but mainly it was Buzz that made the scenes at the military academy even watchable. The stuff at the dance was a little funny when the girls met their dates, plus Jo's interactions with her annoying date, which Buzz mischievously set up.

Anyway, not that great, but not as awful as other spinoff setups. 4/10.
