Gullible Fred
kellielulu31 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
How Fred keeps inadvertently inviting the Hatrocks to stay is a running gag of the episode but it's hard to believe even Fred can't keep his mouth shut here.

The Hatrock's are friendly as long as you keep feeding them and don't interfere with whatever they want. They have an aggressive indifference to what others need, want or think. The episode is funny enough but the Hatrock's take terrible advantage of the Flintstone's , Rubbles and Gruesome 's . They are in their way to the World's Fair and are only staying one night. Fred can't wait to be rid of them but every time they are about to leave Fred goes overboard in graciousness only to encourage them to stay. It turns out that the Hatrock's can't stand bug music ( rock and roll) or the group the four Insects ( like the Beatles ) the Gruesome's don't either but agree to help get rid of the freeloading Hatrock's by pretending too. It's really cute how the Flintstone's, Rubbles, Gruesomes and the kids and pets ( Pebbles, Bamm Bamm , Dino and Hoppy) act like the 4 Insects . The Hatrock's head for the World's Fair and it turns out the 4 Insects are playing there so the Hatrock's head for the hills.

"You're gonna rustle up some more of them burgers, ain't you, Mr. Gruesome?"

This episode was the only follow-up to both "The Gruesomes" and "Bedrock Hillbillies." It's also better than either of those episodes. Interestingly, the Hatrocks come to visit Fred, not to continue the "feud," but just to be "friendly." Fred can't get rid of the Hatrocks, because he keeps unintentionally inviting them to stay longer. Thus, Fred enlists the help the Gruesomes. However, the Hatrocks see nothing strange about the Gruesomes. Many funny situations develop. In the end, only Bug Music drives the Hatrocks away. Obvious reference to the Beatles. At the fair, Bug Music, with the Four Insects! Great episode. Also good that Jean Vander Pyl doubled as Creepella. She was more effective than Naomi Lewis, Creepella's original voice.

I love this episode

I always loved the Grusomes. I like the hillbilly family also. The guy who was "Ernest T. Bass" on the Andy Griffith show does some voices. Really cute parody of the Beatles called "bug music". Fun show.
