Warning: Spoilers
The House That Fred Built, written by Joanna Lee, was actually the 1st episode of the 6th and final season, although No Biz Like Show Biz opened the season. This is one of those episodes where they have an introduction before the opening instead of a "sneak preview." Also, Pebbles has a new green bib and Barney's eyes are black for the 1st time. Plot synopsis: Wilma and Betty complain about how much noise their husbands made the night before. Then Wilma gets a letter from her mother saying she's planning to move in with her favorite daughter and son-in-law. Wilma butters Feed up enough to get him to "agree." The next day, Fred and Barney have a golf game and they follow signs which lead to an old run-down house in the hills. Fred buys it for $100 and plans to use it for his mother-in-law. Fred and Barney see it needs lots of work so they hire a carpenter and a plumber who make them do all the work themselves. Wilma and Betty are suspicious that they're having an affair since they're never home. So they follow them to the house. They catch Fred and Barney all rolled up in wallpaper. Fred explains he bought the house for her mother to live and all is forgiven... until the house gets flooded! So Fred and Barney arrange to have the house moved- with disastrous results! Alas, Wilma's mother visits and announces she'll be moving in with another daughter. While Fred is relieved, he's also sad about the money wasted on the house! Things I liked: Though I didn't care for Fred's crying over the wasted investment, I liked the way the carpenter and the plumber tell Fred and Barney what to do instead of helping them, Hoyt Curtin's creepy screeching violins score leftover from Johnny Quest as they move the house and Pebbles learning a new word from Daddy- "Fight! Fight!" (complete with the boxing moves). A great line from Barney is "Calling this place a castle is like calling your Mother-in-law Miss America!" Sam Edwards plays the Postman and Janet Waldo plays Wilma's Mother. Dedicated to anyone in the business of house flipping! 7 houses out of 10.
