There's a town I know where the hipsters go....

Warning: Spoilers
Happy Easter to everyone celebrating today! This will be my 1st review of the original classic Flintstones. This episode is one of my all-time favorites but I chose this one because MeTV aired it today. It's called The Twitch and was written by Joanna Lee.

The Twitch was the 5th episode in the 3rd season, originally aired on October 12, 1962. This episode hinted at the transition to come on The Flintstones. If you've seen this episode, no doubt you will remember the song The Twitch. Rock Roll is voiced by Hal Smith, probably best known as Otis the drunk on The Andy Griffith Show. John Stephenson does the voices of Sam Stone the cynical talent scout and Ed Sullystone, a parody of Ed Sullivan.

Plot summary: Wilma needs an act for her woman's club. So Fred, along with Barney, go to Sam Stone Agency. Sam doesn't have much to offer for the money Fred has. In fact, he quips "I can put my mother-in-law in the beauty parlor for more than that!" Wilma expects Fred got nothing (and she's correct, of course!). So Fred sees Rock Roll (a parody on Elvis) on TV and falsely claims he got Rock Roll. The next day, Fred and Barney somehow get Rock Roll to agree to it for nothing (try getting a celebrity to agree to it nowadays!). He invites them for lunch. There, Rock admits he's allergic to pickled dodo eggs and they make him sneeze and lose his voice if eaten. However, his allergic reaction got him twitching and dancing around. So he plays his new hit The Twitch. "There's a town a know where the hipsters go called Bedrock! Twitch, twitch!" Fred and Barney dance to his song. Alas, on the night of the show, Rock Roll has laryngitis due to eating some pickled dodo eggs. So it's up to Fred to pick the pieces.... The next morning, Wilma and Betty come home to find Fred practicing the guitar. Unfortunately, he cannot sing!

Ok, here's what I liked. The bird playing the phonograph, some of the acts Sam offers- a chimpanzee, a flirtatious peacock, a sultry mermaid singing Camptown Races which Fred considers "too nifty for the women's club" and a juggler who uses Fred as his victim, I mean act. Then there's the song- The Twitch. It's catchy. You'll probably have it in your head for a while. Fred shows his support throughout the episode and doesn't want Wilma to be disappointed. I think that's the main reason we're all glad Rock Roll agrees for free to play at Wilma's event. Trivia note: This is the only episode which shows the Hanna Barbera logo.10 twitches out of 10!
