Among the best

Warning: Spoilers
I admit that I consider Frasier to be one of the best shows ever to appear on television. I'm glad to know that because it spent 11 years on the air, I was not the only one who felt this way.

That being said, this particular episode contains much of what makes Frasier remarkable. It contains the last straw of Niles and his marriage with Maris, and although his interaction with Dr. Schenkman is rather unbelievable, it is still a bit clever and fairly amusing, mostly because of David Hyde Pierce.

Martin has a supposed date for the first time in a while, yet it ends up being with the particular woman's mother. Martin's explanation of the "date" is one of his best-delivered sequences. The ending of the episode is what makes Frasier a special show. It contains a sly bit of humor as well as a rather somber ending allowing the audience to soak it all up, so to eat.

Among the best episodes, although a bit early in the best Frasier years.

He portrays just the right amount of pain and anguish that Niles endures due to the events of this episode

Nicely Crafted

Niles has done everything he can to get Maris to return to him. Yet she is the epitome of selfishness and vanity. No matter how she treats him, he continues to adore her. This episode involves a marriage counselor who takes advantage of the situation. But the biggest recommendation comes from all three Cranes, talking about their failures and random successes. This is really touching.

David Hyde Pierce steals the show

This was a nice, bittersweet episode. There were some good jokes as well as some very emotional moments. However, undoubtedly the best part of the episode was the acting of David Hyde Pierce. His range is fantastic, whether he is being silly, emotional, angry or sad. And his timing is impeccable. It is not just this episode, for the whole show both the character of Niles and his portrayal by David Hyde Pierce have been arguably the best part of it. This was one of the episodes that are the prime examples of that.

A great episode and thoroughly enjoyable, despite some sad moments that are in it.
