Another excellent dramatic episode dealing with love
SleepTight66620 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Another excellent dramatic episode dealing with love.

On one hand with have Sam and Cindy. It's purely superficial, Sam only likes her because she is hot. Everyone does. But the thing is, she is boring and shallow. She and Sam don't have the same interests, which is okay. but the necklace thing went too far, she is a stuck-up self-centered bitch. Neil really annoyed me in this episode, he as always only sees the superficial aspect. He'd make a great jock.

then we have Ken and Amy. They are a great couple, have the same humor and interests. They are perfect together. The problem here is that Amy was born as part girl/part guy. And that freaked out Ken, it would freak out most naive heterosexual men. It freaked him out so much because he kinda loved her, it almost made him think he was gay. Of course, back then, being gay meant being into disco.

One of the best scenes of this episode was the conversation between Ken and Sam in the bathroom. It made them both realize what had to be done, Ken going for it and Sam breaking up with Cindy.

There was more going on, but that is what made the episode so great.

Ken carries for once

I absolutely loved the bathroom scene with Sam and Ken talking about their girlfriends it's one of those rare scenes were you don't expect it but it makes total sense and works perfectly.

"It's just, we don't have anything in common. I mean, she thought The Jerk was stupid" . . .

Warning: Spoilers
. . . Seems like a pretty good reason to cut ties with someone. Really, how could one not like that movie? Shocking discoveries abound here; Sam sees how boring (and patently awful) his dream girl is, and personal secrets about Ken's girlfriend leave him deeply conflicted. As funny as this is (no question), both storylines are handled with an impressive level of sensitivity. Sam's worked for so long to get Cindy's attention, but they just don't mesh. And Seth Rogen does some of his best work channeling Ken's despair.

It's never a sad episode, but you end up rooting for both characters to move beyond this. There are plenty of funny moments, not the least of them Ben Stiller as a dissatisfied Secret Service agent. Pretty much all of the show's best qualities are right here, and the little things really do add up to something special.

9/10.

Probably the best episode of the series

Warning: Spoilers
From what I have read, this is one of the originally unseen episodes- just as Detroit 1-8-7 was cancelled after erratic scheduling, this show was canceled with a few, at the time, unseen episodes.

It is probably the best in the series; not just for dark laughs but for how it deals with intersexuality; Seth Rogan was never really challenged as an actor in the series until this episode, but we see a whole lot more to Ken, and that's for starters).

Also dating someone who not only doesn't like the stuff you, but is actually pretty vacuous and the struggle to dump rather than continue dating the prettiest girl.

Does the word 'profound' ever enter the lexicon of network television?

And that's before we get to the whole VPOTUS visit and how a submitted question was rejected because this was just a photo-op for the VP when they wanted a nice, media-friendly, photo-op question.

The Little Things (#1.17)

Warning: Spoilers
Bush comes to school and Lindsay is chosen to ask him a question but her question doesn't get approved. Sam finds out that him and Cindy have nothing in common and breaks up with her. Ken finds out that his girlfriend is intersex and has some trouble dealing with it but then realizes that it is not important.

Great episode. I like how they showed conflicts in relationships and how when one expects much as Sam did it may not work out. It was a bit of a low blow for them to make Cindy republican and kind of make her look like a bad person for it. Mind you, it has nothing to do with my political views. Just that left media is very annoying this way in our time. But I remind myself that this was done almost 20 years ago. And no matter what it was done in a very good way.

Ken's story was even better. The situation itself was very original and they really showed very well how he was dealing with it. including his fight with Daniel. Ken's conversation with Sam in the bathroom was just perfect with his realization that the whole issue doesn't matter and the girl is right for him.

We get also some great scenes with Jeff Rosso being disappointed by politics but not by his student Lindsay.
