In the opening, Uncle Phil goes on a rant that Geoffrey should be more creative in his insults about Phil's weight.
This rant is a parody of Cyrano de Bergerac's monologue about his nose against the Viscount's insults (An example of this monologue is in the Quotes section of Cyrano de Bergerac (1985).
In the opening, Will makes a joke about Uncle Phil's weight by comparing him to "the elephant that trampled all them people." The incident Will is referring to occurred on August 20, 1994 when, during a performance of the Circus International of Honolulu, Hawaii, an African elephant named Tyke killed her trainer and seriously injured her groomer. She then ran from the arena and escaped into the streets of Honolulu.
While wearing the fat suit, Will looks down at the groin area and quipped that Lorena Bobbitt must have gotten to the suit first. In 1993, the year before the episode aired, Lorena Bobbitt garnered national attention when she attacked her husband and cut off his penis, reportedly in response to his abusive behavior toward her.
