An Oddly Honest Man

By now we know that DSC Cradock is tough clever and tenacious copper.

He is after the pilot who flew off with the gold. Cradock needs to find the plane used.

That is easy, it was owned by a company run by Edward Meakin (Christopher Benjamin) who claims he sold it a few weeks before the robbery took place.

Only the paperwork is not correct. Cradock has found right paperwork. When the robbery took place. Meakin's company still owned it. This plane's whereabouts was not accounted for at the time of the robbery. Cradock wants answers.

Under pressure Meakin offers up a name. Tom Goodwin (Ian Hendry) a pilot who has done some gun running in the past for some African countries.

Now freshly married to Dee (Wanda Ventham) and about to open a bar which he has just purchased. He has Cradock breathing down his neck.

Goodwin might have just been the pilot, but people were killed or injured during the robbery. Cradock thinks he can crack him. Dee has already cracked, it is a short marriage.

By the time Goodwin's name was offered by Meakin. You know it is over. Even a bad boy like Goodwin could not spin enough lies. He even had a crafty plan to show that he got the money in from abroad to buy the bar. Cradock was not going to fall for it.

Another episode with good performances from the leads. Hendry and Ventham would later appear in The Lotus Eaters as a married couple.
