The girls don't know the half of what Sophia gets up to.
Sleepin_Dragon9 June 2023
It's a miserable, rainy day, and the girls sit around drinking coffee, eating cookies and chatting, one of the topics happens to be about about Sophia, and her lack of activities, meanwhile Sophia is out fighting justice and conducting a band.

A lovely, charming, funny episode, this fourth series has started very well, hopefully the quality continues the whole way through. I love seeing the girls sat around, eating and chatting, and those scenes are very funny, however, it's Sophia's antics that make this one so enjoyable.

Rose is wonderfully naive and innocent here, the conversations at the dinner table are hilarious, more tales of Saint Olaf, I just loved Blanche's romantic tales, so funny.

A few of the additional sets are used, we see the park, hospital and the supermarket, it does make a nice change seeing a few different settings.

8/10.

When Sophia comes marching in, it's a real peach!

Warning: Spoilers
It's a lazy afternoon for Blanche, Rose and Dorothy, yet Dorothy spends it worrying that Sophia doesn't have much of a life. But she proves them wrong even though they have no idea what she does. It's obviously more than just a visit to the market, and she's actually gone for more than just a few hours. The premise is a weak one although the situations are funny and often touching. Rose helps an ignored senior citizen get a refund on a bad lamb chop, conducts a senior band (using an umbrella as a baton) and volunteers at the hospital, providing comfort to a lonely elderly patient (Ellen Albertini Dow in one of several appearances in different parts) and amuses a little boy. The fact that Sophia's gone for hours should be an indication that she's actually busy so the others being concerned makes no sense.

The Days and Nights of Sophia Petrillo (#4.2)
ComedyFan201020 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Sophia goes to the market to buy a nectarine as she does every day. The girls are worried that she has an inactive life. They spend the day eating, watching TV and talking. In the meantime Sophia has a big dispute at the market, participates in a jazz band and volunteers at the hospital.

Yeah the main idea is pretty amusing that the 3 think that Sophia has an inactive life while she did more than them, they also did an ironic parallel when Dorothy remembers her active grandmother and says for Sophia she was always just a mother in wheelchair getting old. not too much happening though.

One Of The Best Episodes In The Series

Warning: Spoilers
To sum up the episode, Rose, Dorothy and Blanche pretty much waste a whole gloomy rainy day doing really much of nothing, but in the meantime, the ladies think Sophia has nothing to do, except for purchasing a nectarine at the local grocery store, but to in all honesty, Sophia actually accomplished more on the gloomy day than each of the ladies realize.

Instead of doing the usual compilation episode the series focuses on, it depicts Sophia on several situations throughout her day, she helps a friend get her money back on a package of meat by scamming the grocery store, it's cute and funny.

Sophia's next stop is to a group of elderly women who play in a small band that raises charity money, and she encourages the women to give their all and be spunky a bit with their performance, and the ladies see an overflow of cash in the hat they use to hold the money, meanwhile, the remaining ladies at home are eating and telling stories, as they usually do, but instead of it being night time, the ladies are doing what they normally do on this gloomy day.

The final situation Sophia has going on in her day, she is shown volunteering at a hospital, in which she has a special connection with one little boy who is HIV positive, though due to the times it was, it's not really said, but it's hinted in the conversation, which it's the first time this series brings up the topic, though it's not done as well as Designing Women did with it, it's still done very well, but The Golden Girls will later on tackle the topic in a much stronger episode.

Usually episodes of this particular nature are considered "fillers", but this episode really depicted that you may not know someone as well as you think, in Dorothy's case being her mother, and living with her, as well as the other two roommates, they really don't know everything about Sophia, and it covers just enough topics in this simple episode, and I personally feel it's probably one of the best Sophia episodes of the entire series.
