This episode won the Silver Rose at the Montreux Festival Rose d'Or. In the first episode of the next season, Tim Brooke-Taylor can be seen painting the trophy gold.
On the DVD commentary, the team said that the Montreux version was a re-edit (not a complete remake) of the original that added the singing dogs, and some more scenes with the hot air balloon.
This re-edited and extended version is now the only surviving version. The shorter version originally broadcast in November 1971 was deemed surplus to requirements several years later and the tape wiped for re-use by the BBC.
