Hooterville resident Selma Plout, a member of Lisa's culture club, is a recurring character on Petticoat Junction (1963) and makes her only Green Acres (1965) appearance in this episode. Selma Plout, played by Virginia Sale, is not identified by name here, only in the end credits.
When trying to sell conductor's batons, Mr. Haney drops the name Shep Fields, who was bandleader in the U.S., often broadcasting coast to coast on radio from hotel ballrooms. He did so starting in the 1930s and continuing to the 1960s. Ken Curtis, who is perhaps best known for his long-recurring portrayal of Festus on the TV western Gunsmoke (1955), sang with the band during the 1940s.
Buddy Foster makes his TV debut in this episode. He would go on to make one more appearance for the series in The Saucer Season (1967), as well as appearances in Petticoat Junction (1963) and another popular 1960s rural sitcom: The Andy Griffith Show (1960), where he debuts the Mike Jones character that he would portray as a regular in the The Andy Griffith Show (1960) spin-off Mayberry R.F.D. (1968).
