The title of this episode is a parody of the English fairy tale "Jack and the Beanstalk," which first appeared as "The Story of Jack Spriggins and the Enchanted Bean" in the year 1734.
The "Executive Producer," "Written by" and "Directed by" all come on when Lisa turns out the lights.
The green giant spoof derives from a popular character in TV commercials. At the time this episode originally aired, the Green Giant Company was in its 15th year of producing TV commercials that featured the company's mascot, a green giant, to advertise its canned vegetables. The company's mascot invariably bellows the "Ho! Ho! Ho!" that has become something of an iconic tagline for Green Giant commercials and for, as occurs in this episode of Green Acres (1965), parodies of those commercials.
Lisa quotes from two plays by William Shakespeare. "Good night, Sweet Prince" comes from "Hamlet," Act 5, Scene 2; "Parting is such sweet sorrow" comes from "Romeo and Juliet," Act 2, Scene 2.
