Spoiler about the Last Episode of The Guns of Will Sonnett
carp-130 December 2011
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of the few TV series I have seen that totally satisfied me with its ending. We all know "Gilligan's Island" ended without Gilligan and gang getting off the island. It wasn't until a reunion movie some ten years later that they were all rescued. "Lost in Space" ended with the cast, well, still lost in space. A recent example is the conclusion of "Smallville" which ended with long distance shots of Tom Welling as Superman, no close-ups of him in the Superman costume. This was after ten years of waiting for him to become Superman! In this show, Will and Jeff finally catch up to Jim. It is very dramatic as Jeff rides his horse up a long hill to finally meet his father. And then the three main characters, Will and Jim and Jeff, all walk off together at the end, lawmen working together for the town of Samson. After two seasons of so many close calls in almost finding Will's son, Jim, who was Jeff's father of course, the ending was sweet and well written and well acted. When Jeff first says, "Howdy, Pa," to Jim, there are tears in his eyes and both Dack Rambo and Jason Evers nail the scenes as Jeff and Jim Sonnett. Enough can't be said about Walter Brennan, who was always excellent too. So, in my opinion, this final show, appropriately titled "Three Stand Together" and written by the talented Dick Carr, rates a ten out of ten. It satisfies completely.
