Have Gunman, Will Wound
zsenorsock30 April 2007
Warning: Spoilers
John Abbott plays Ainslee, a man who's known to be mighty quick with a gun. He hires Paladin to come to town and shoot him in the hand! See Ainslee is tired of being known as a fast gun and having to face all the challengers, so he figures if he were shot in the hand, he'd be free to live a quiet life.

John Abbott would seem to be an odd choice to play a fast gun hand. He usually plays doctors or professors or Organians on "Sta Trek". But maybe that's the point: you don't have to look like a fast gun to be a fast gun. He certainly plays the reluctance well. But its hard to buy that this guy would have the nerve, the reflexes and the vision to be as good a gunman as he is.

Paladin also nearly gets his client killed when he encourages him to "reach out" from his hiding place behind a water through to get his gun. Paladin hopes Ainslee will legitimately get shot in the hand. But the sequence is poorly directed and Abbott comes out so far he would easily have been shot in the head and killed.

While there's some decent action in this episode, its not one of the better shows of season three.
