For Veteran TV Watchers

Don't let that rather silly opening in San Francisco fool you. The 30-minutes turns serious from there on. Paladin is to escort serial wife-killer (Bissell) to court for trial. Meanwhile, however, he has to get past crooked sheriff (Fix) and two henchmen who want to appease superstitious Indians with the wife-killer's scalp. Complicating things is the sheriff's comely daughter (Donahue) who understandably wants to get away from dear old cruel dad.

The plot's offbeat but in the end relents implausibly with Letty Mae (Donahue). Also there's the offbeat casting of the usually meek and mild Bissell as an irresistible lady's man, of all things. Then too, there's the familiar Paul Fix darn near unrecognizable with his teeth out. Moreover, it's sure a long way from Father Knows Best (1954-1960) for the always demure Miss Donahue. In short, it's an interesting cast for veteran TV watchers. Otherwise, the entry remains entertaining but unexceptional.
