Pretty good.

Warning: Spoilers
This episode of "Hawaii Five-O" is nice because most of the show has a nice change of scenery. Instead of taking place on Oahu like 95-98% of the episodes, this one occurs on the big island of Hawaii. A guy (Bruce Boxleitner) has just returned from college and his brother (Perry King) goes to pick him up at the airport. On their way home to see their father, the Colonel (Leslie Nielsen), they stop at a bar for a drink. There, Boxleitner sees an old girlfriend and they go out back to talk. He begins kissing her--and her husband shows and beats the snot out of Boxleitner. However, the beating did not appear to kill him--and during this fight, his brother curiously hides in the bushes and watches. When Boxleitner is later declared dead, it's pretty obvious King took the opportunity to kill his brother because the opportunity presented itself. Besides, earlier, King had told the lady's husband that his wife was out back and deliberately sent him to confront his brother.

The Colonel turns out to be a very rich rancher--and a complete power freak. He seems to feel that because his family was one of the original founding white colonists and he's rich that he can do anything. But, when the dead is ruled manslaughter and they hold the woman's husband for the murder (no one yet realizes King did it), the Colonel won't stand for it and takes justice into his own hands.

The episode was good and as I said above the change of venue was nice. My only complaint, and it's a relatively minor one, is that the Colonel kidnapped the assumed killer and plans to execute him. Fine. But why delay at least a couple days? This naturally would make it more likely the police would catch him--and the Colonel seemed to feel he was above the law. Odd...but not a fatal flaw in the plot.

Interesting setting for this episode!

Descriptions of the plot of this episode are already presented above. What I found interesting was that the two century old, fictional, huge "Faraday" ranch on the north side of the Big Island is an obvious reference to the actual huge, old, "Parker" Ranch which is in that exact spot. You can see the Parker Ranch on maps of the Big Island (a.k.a. "Hawaii" Island.) Its Northeast corner is just a mile or so from the small town of Waimea. (The name "Waimea" is way over-used in Hawaii) In fact I think the Parker Ranch must have cooperated in the shooting of the episode. Great way to see this beautiful place.

Some future stars
VetteRanger30 March 2023
Before this show, Leslie Neilson was already a "star", having appeared in many movies and TV shows. However, he was later to become a much bigger star starting with his comedy role in Airplane and moving on to the Police Squad movies, among others.

But Hawaii 5-0, as was often the case, cast a couple of actors who'd go on to better things. Perry King had a couple of big mini-series roles and became a guest start staple. However, there's also a brief appearance by Bruce Boxleitner, who went on to make Tron and star in four TV series, with only Bring 'Em Back Alive lasting only one season.

Now for the episode itself? Pretty pedestrian, but you do see Jack Lord ride a horse. If you miss this one, you haven't missed much.

A very weary episode
hmoika8 June 2019
I've felt for some time now that this show started its slow decline with the seventh season.

Don't misunderstand though: there are several enjoyable episodes in this season. Still, for me something seems to be missing. I can't put my finger on it.......except to suggest that several of these episodes seem tired.

This particular episode has got to be the first episode to appear in which I feel utterly wearied just sitting through it.

I can see everything coming.....but the worst of it is: I just don't care.

Personally, I've stopped watching this show after season 8. But it seems the boredom really started setting in with this episode.
