The original Vlad III Dracul was the ruler of Wallachia in the 1400s. He fought the Transylvanian Saxons, took many of them prisoner and impaled them. To the folks of Romanian Wallchia Vlad is a historic hero.
Prince Vlad shares his name with Vlad the Impaler, the original Transylvanian vampire who was said to impale his victims' decapitated heads on pointed stakes.
