This is the first episode ever in which Hercules doesn't even appear.
The town of Cyllabos only reappears every 50 years because of the curse Hephaestus put on it. This is a take off on a German novel about a town that only appears every 100 years named Gemmerslausin in a novel by Friedrich Gerstäcker, also used in Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe's Scottish play "Brigadoon".
This episode makes ample use of the Dutch angle, a cinematic technique in which the camera is slightly tilted making the scenes appear to be off kilter.
Hephaestus says, "If only Zeus had been my father...". For all the gods, different authors of the classic era gave different stories. Some said Hephaestus was the child of Hera and Zeus, others said he sprouted full grown from Hera's head (as a bit of one upmanship over that Zeus/Athena stunt).
The plot includes a village whose name is pronounced Syllabus. A syllabus is an academic document which describes a course and notes its expectations and responsibilities.
