Warning: Spoilers
Mac's old pal Fitzcairn, played by Roger Daltrey, shows up concerned that three immortals have recently disappeared. This is the introduction of 'The Watchers.' A group of mortals who have been watching immortals for thousands of years in order to record their history. They are not allowed to interfere with anything, and to watch only.

A fringe group develops in the watchers, lead by Horton. He believes the immortals are evil and that 'man' are the rulers of the earth and think immortals are a threat to that. So they start killing off immortals. They remind me a lot of witchhunts, persecuting people because they are different in some sort of way.

They go after and kill Darius in the monastery. Werner Stocker was very ill with cancer and didn't film in this. They used stock footage. He sadly died not long after this episode aired. He did a wonderful job portraying Darius. RIP.

So immortals aren't allowed to fight on holy ground. It's implied in later episodes it could cause a major catastrophe such as a volcano eruption or earthquake. Yet it's ok if one immortal is beheaded on holy ground by mortals? You'd think there would be some consequence for this too, but there isn't.

Mac is devastated when his old friend is killed. Later he and Fitzcairn are attacked by the watchers. Fitz is kidnapped and Mac catches one. I thought it was stupid the guy took a knife to himself. Given that as the series progresses the watchers just seem like a bunch of evil nutbars with no guts, with the exception of Joe and "Adam Pierson." Duncan spots the watcher tattoo and later finds a book Darius has which is a chronicle of the immortals written by a watcher from a few hundred years ago.

I loved when Duncan was being followed by the watcher. He knows it. He disappears and then starts following the watcher. Then the watcher spots Mac behind him. Mac pretends he's looking around but then looks at the guy with a knowing look. That was an awesome moment. Kudos to Adrian Paul's expression.

Loved when for once Richie came to Duncan's rescue on the motorcycle. If this is the Watcher estate, it looks mighty expensive. Who funds them anyway? Lots of questions about the Watchers will never be answered in the series.

Mac rescues Fitz. Fitz, by the way, ends up becoming a fan favorite as he has great camaraderie with Duncan and is a funny lovable guy. When Duncan rescues Fitz this is when Horton tells them they've been watching all along and how immortals are evil and 'man' are the ones to inherit the earth. He just sounds fanatical.

Later Mac delivers a touching eulogy to Darius. Now upon re-watches, I automatically think of Werner Stocker passing away in this moment. I really wish we could have had more of Duncan's wise mentor on the show. I gave the episode a 9/10

good bye Darius (WS)... Warning: Spoilers
Fitz, first appearance of RD, if memory right, not real old just can be forgetful, (first time saw, found out was a singer after this show, his group, great music), and these 2 play off each other perfectly. Show was still done well, even though they were planing to have the Darius character die in this epi, not they way was done, WS was very sick, surprised all by how sick (brain tumor I believe) and died days after this epi aired, (if listening to commentary, was done at a diff time than show and made mistake, WS was in hospital dying while this epi made, air date May 22, WS died May 27)

Also first appearance of the "watcher we love to hate", Horton, as he was/seemed to be the driving force behind getting rid of immortals (although later epis seem seem like Mac is the main 1 he want gone...) more of Richie being a great friend, which Mac doesn't like, although was Richie wanting to see cute girl reason was able to "help" Mac, good more of less but not as Mac (well we learn/know in next 4 or 5 epis).

At least immortals can sense each other but to be hunted by mortals who some just because, Horton, he is whole other species, does make for more interesting epis to come and story arches (is that how you spell ?) and funny Richies fake out with duty (what is it bout duty laughs...), That Horton expected/knew Mac wouldn't hurt/kill him, hmmm MAC much more HUMAN than Horton huh...that Horton more important than Mac well ya showcases here how DERANGED Horton is/became/was...leaving Paris...

RIP WS/Darius love the character...
