While Jonathan tries to dissuade Mark from smoking, Mark says "What are you looking at? Come on, we all got to die sometime or another!" and asks Jonathan "What did you die from?" Jonathan soberly replies "Lung cancer." In fact, it was lung cancer that took actor Victor French's life five years later.
The actors who played the characters of Sealy, Helen, Clinton Rudd, and the hairdresser as well as the two stars all passed away within seven years after this episode aired.
The hotel's true name can be seen on the back of the room door at the 18:30 mark, The Huntington Sheraton Hotel.
Jonathan criticizes Mark for smoking, warning Mark that he had smoked all his life and died of lung cancer. Like his character, Victor French was a longtime heavy smoker. He died in 1989 at age 54, a few months after being diagnosed with lung cancer. Michael Landon chain-smoked up to four packs of cigarettes a day, mostly unfiltered menthols. He stopped smoking soon after French died, but continued to drink heavily. He also died at age 54, from advanced pancreatic cancer.
