John McGiver banking on a genie

"Jeannie Breaks the Bank" opens with Tony upset with Jeannie over the extravagant meals she's been serving lately, most of which she has purchased with his credit card. Now unable to afford a down payment on a sailboat, Tony decides to apply for a loan from the bank, with Jeannie tagging along. Loan manager Wilfred turns down a $70 loan for a penniless widow with no securities, so a $1000 loan for an astronaut who might not come down from the moon doesn't look like a sure bet. One look at his Christmas club account shows over $3 million, courtesy one blink from Jeannie, so Wilfred tries to expand the amount of the loan. Dr. Bellows just happens to be present when Tony's account is discussed, and investigates how an astronaut on a monthly salary of $900 would be worth millions. Another foolproof episode that ends with the good doctor baffled before General Peterson yet again: "doctor, have you been analyzed recently?"

Banking On Banks

Jeannie has been spending Tony's money for extravagant groceries to make extravagant meals. When Tony sees the $1000 ($10,000 in today's money) bill from his local grocer he's flabbergasted and realizes that he no longer has the money to buy a small sail boat, something he and Roger planned on doing together. Why Jeannie didn't just blink up the food for free with her magic powers is never explained. But that's a small quibble.

Roger comes over and Tony gives him the bad news. Then Jeannie blinks up a sail boat right in the living room. And then Dr. Bellows comes over and sees the sail boat in Tony's living room. Yikes. He vows to catch Tony one day. One day, Major. One day. He vows.

Tony decides to get a loan from the bank so he and Roger can buy the sail boat. Jeannie asks to go with him and Tony agrees. Jeannie is actually scared of banks because she once knew a guy with no ears and his ears had been cut off by a bank for not paying back the loan. That would scare anybody. It would certainly scare me. In fact, I hate going into banks. It's as bad as going to the barber or the dentist. I prefer dealing with machines. They're more reliable.

Okay, so while they're at the bank Jeannie does something very naughty. No, not X-Rated naughty, but naughty like a child. She puts 3 million dollars into Tony's Christmas Club Fund. Don't we all have 3 million dollars in our Christmas Club Fund? I know I do.

Of course, Dr. Bellows finds out about it and thinks he's finally found a way to catch Tony red-handed. Does he? Well, I don't want to spoil it so I'll stop there.

This is a very funny episode and I gave it a "10".
