Laverne & ???

This is effectively the end for the series. The show wasn't new & fresh anymore but was still entertaining. Cindy Williams could add that bit of pizzazz to a show that it needed. She was a skilled actor.

It's a shame all because Cindy Williams became pregnant. The writers could have easily made that part of the story line. The producers & executives were effectively being petty and wrote her out of the show. The show was extremely weak after the departure of Cindy Williams. Having said that, I don't think the show could have lasted more than an other season. Just my two cents.

No more Shirley

The first episode without Shirley. However, the premise is about her absence she leaves Laverne saying she left. The opening credits is different too. It feels like a spin off which would've been better, but I don't know. It is a sweet moment where Laverne reads the note. You can tell how much Shirley means to Laverne.

Shirley flew the coop Warning: Spoilers
The new opening without Shirley is jarring and those little kids singing "12345678 Schlemiel!, Schlimazel!" is blasphemous. It's made even worse by Laverne standing there with a dopey smile while carrying a sack of groceries.

What comes after that is no better. It's painful to watch Laverne upset that her best friend just up and left her with a short goodbye note. We watch her sulk for the whole episode until she finds the rest of the letter that has hugs and kisses in them....as if that makes it all better.

She still up and ditched Laverne in such a cold way. Surely she could've popped into the dance to say goodbye in person on the way to the airport. This is what Shirley would've done because that's the kind of person she was, but since Cindy Williams was already gone I guess they felt that they had no choice but to have Shirley ditch her.

They could've just opened the episode with Shirley being already gone after having a big farewell party off camera which would've made more sense. I did like one part where Laverne interviewed new roommates and think this is what they should've done instead of turning it into the Laverne Show. The girl who said her Pop sent over looked like she would've made a good replacement until they stupidly had her go off with Laverne's doppleganger to share a place themselves instead. 1 star for this first Shirley-less episode.
